What cctv & access integration is

Integration links the access control system to CCTV so every door event has a matching video clip. Instead of scrubbing hours of footage, you click the event and watch it.

Who it suits

Any site already running both systems, and any site where incidents need evidencing.

What a proper installation includes

  • Event-tagged video bookmarks against every door transaction
  • Camera call-up on door-forced and door-held alarms
  • Shared user interface across access and video
  • Retention aligned to your data protection policy
  • Export of clip plus audit record for incident reporting

How to choose well

  • Check both systems support a common integration before buying either
  • Position the camera to capture the face at the reader, not the back of a head
  • Set retention deliberately; longer is not automatically better under UK GDPR
  • Agree who may pull footage and log every export

How we work

We survey first. An engineer looks at the door leaf, the frame, the closer, the cable route and the fire strategy, because those four things decide the hardware far more than any brochure does. You then get a written quotation itemised per door, with the actual hardware named, so you can compare it properly against anyone else's.

On install day the work is done around your occupancy, not against it. Everything is commissioned, the fire interface is tested with the alarm, your users are loaded, and you get the documentation — user list, as-fitted details and the commissioning record — at handover rather than three emails later.

Repairs and aftercare

We service what we install and we service what other people installed. If you already have cctv & access integration that is failing, tell us the make and model from the panel and we can usually narrow the fault before an engineer leaves the yard.

Questions about cctv & access integration

Do the access control and CCTV need to be the same brand?

Not necessarily, but they do need a supported integration. We check compatibility at survey so you are not sold two systems that will never talk to each other.

How long should we keep the footage?

Only as long as you have a justified need. Many sites settle on 30 days. Whatever you choose should be written down in your policy and actually enforced by the recorder.

How much does access control installation cost in the UK?

A single controlled door with a reader, lock and controller typically costs between £750 and £1,500 installed. Multi-door systems usually work out between £600 and £1,100 per door, because the controller and software cost is shared across the doors. Door hardware, cable runs and any fire alarm interfacing move the figure most, which is why we survey before quoting rather than pricing blind.

How long does an access control system take to install?

A single door is normally half a day to a day. A typical 8 to 12 door commercial system takes two to four days on site, followed by a commissioning visit to load users, set access levels and hand over. Larger sites are phased so the building stays secure throughout.

Do you work on systems installed by someone else?

Yes. We repair, service and extend all common makes of access control, door entry and intercom, whoever installed them. If a system is genuinely beyond economic repair we will say so and show you the numbers for both options.

Does the door have to unlock when the fire alarm sounds?

On a designated escape route, yes. The locking must fail safe and release on alarm, free mechanical egress must be maintained, and every maglocked escape door needs a green emergency break-glass release. This is a life-safety requirement and we test it with the fire alarm at commissioning.
